Unreal rains (God) kept me from accessing the former area of interest. Our buddy says the area has changed to an area I've visited many times, Javelina hunting, camping, and activities related to the current ones, back when it was called a Citizen...group. I've done extensive 4x4 exploration of backroads in that AO and can confirm traffic in the hundreds per night along some trails. There are 2 areas with severe restrictions: San Pedro Riparian (Wildlife Preserve) and Ft. Huachuca (communications hub of the planet), which has the ability to monitor the entire broad valley east of the Huachuca Mountains (not that the military would be involved in domestic law enforcement activity). On good days (common in the stated time-frame) they send up tethered blimps, several K' which can monitor west, over the mountains and probably into NM, east & up to I-10, north. A large Border Patrol station is located just west of Douglas south of Rt. 80. There are plenty of dirt roads running parallel to the Border and plenty of paved roads to get you close, until you get east of Douglas. West of there are numerous portable-lift crow's nests, with A/C & tinted windows, to cover vast flat-lands with waist-high creosote bushes. The next large BP station I've seen is way west on Rt. 82, west of Rt. 83, closer to Patagonia/Nogales. None east of Douglas, due to El Paso Sector abutment. Much of the "urban" 'fencing' is surplus corrugated sheetmettal with built-in steps, although Douglas has some real fine barriers. But, there's plenty of 4-strand barbed wire fence, if you look for it. Nights along the border roads are dusty from dozens of jeeps & SUVs in frenzied jack-lighting of crossers. The ones I've met with are cheerful young adrenaline-junkies, who probably can't believe they're getting paid to have that much fun. Profiling is rabid and they are very attune to instant identification of which 'side' you're on. Mountainous/rough terrain is covered in daytime by pairs of quads and occasionally horseback. Wow, I could go on for pages, but gotta go. Give me a category and I'll send you a thesis...
